PTI Tries to Contain Damage After Bushra's Controversial Statement
Bushra Bibi’s claims of a foreign conspiracy behind Imran Khan’s government ouster have created shockwaves within PTI, with party leaders expressing concerns about the impact on his legal battles and the party’s future.
Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, has stirred controversy with her claims about a foreign conspiracy that led to the removal of her husband, Imran Khan, from power. PTI leaders have expressed shock and are now questioning the timing and validity of her statement, made just days before the planned protest in Islamabad. According to Bushra Bibi, certain foreign powers were displeased with Imran Khan’s religious actions, particularly his decision to walk barefoot in Madina. She also mentioned that after his return from the holy city, calls of disapproval were made to the then-army chief, Qamar Javed Bajwa, although she did not specify who was behind these calls.
In response, PTI leaders have criticized the party's leadership for making errors at critical moments, which has caused the momentum built over months to collapse. A senior party member voiced concerns that Bushra Bibi’s statements could negatively impact Imran Khan’s chances of securing bail in the remaining May 9 cases. One member of PTI's lawyers’ wing referred to the comments as a "bombshell," lamenting that the party had become "leaderless and directionless." PTI activist and singer Salman Ahmad also voiced his frustration, calling Bushra Bibi "corrupt and greedy," and accusing her and her associates of continuously embarrassing Imran Khan.
