LAHORE: Moderate rain, accompanied by cold winds, brought much-needed relief to Lahore on Friday, intensifying the winter chill and improving air quality significantly.
According to IQAir, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) saw a dramatic improvement, dropping from a hazardous 493 on Thursday night to 142 by Friday evening. The maximum AQI recorded on Friday was 252 at 9am.
While the rain improved air conditions, it also caused disruptions. Over 260 feeders of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tripped, leaving many parts of the city without electricity for several hours.
The Met Office forecasted more rain in Lahore during the night, alongside cold and dry weather across most districts of Punjab. Mountainous regions, including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, are expected to see light rain and snowfall, while plain areas of Punjab and Sindh may experience smog and dense fog during night and morning hours.
Smog and fog are likely to affect several cities, including Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling.
