The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is making a renewed effort to acquire Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), following up on its initial letter of intent submitted on November 1. KP is determined to offer more than the Rs10 billion bid from the Blue World Consortium, aiming to preserve PIA's legacy as the national flag carrier.

In a letter to Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Privatization, KP Board of Investment and Trade Vice-Chairman Hassan Masood Kunwar emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition. He also highlighted the strong backing from the KP Chief Minister and the investment board. The KP leadership is committed to providing the necessary support and resources to revitalize PIA, ensuring that its future aligns with Pakistan's broader national interests.

The province’s trade and investment body is prepared to present a competitive bid, showcasing their commitment to the country’s aviation sector. KP views itself as a key stakeholder in PIA, given its role within the federation.

Mr. Kunwar assured that KP's intentions are genuine and not politically motivated, and requested a written response from the federal government, which had only provided a verbal reply during a press conference.
