Karachi: Residents near Isa Nagri protested severe power and water shortages, leading to major traffic disruptions on a key city road. Long queues of vehicles formed as the road closure slowed traffic significantly. On Tuesday evening, locals gathered to protest frequent power cuts, which exceed 12 hours daily, and water shortages worsened by both scheduled and unscheduled load-shedding. Despite repeated complaints to the Water Corporation, residents said no action has been taken.

The protest caused one of the worst traffic jams, affecting even the Lyari Expressway. Commuters were left stranded, facing long delays. After discussions with the police, protesters dispersed following assurances, and traffic was gradually restored.

In recent weeks, similar protests took place on Jahangir Road over prolonged outages, causing further traffic strain. Meanwhile, in Battagram, the Trade Union has called for a total strike and announced they will withhold electricity payments until a stable power schedule is restored.

Separately, NEPRA increased Karachi’s electricity rates by Rs0.40 per unit for August adjustments, to be reflected in January bills. Additionally, KMC reported collecting Rs228 million in municipal taxes through K-Electric bills, with a target to raise Rs3 billion annually for city projects and municipal dues.
