Jansen's Masterclass Leads to Sri Lanka’s Record Low of 42 in Test
Sri Lanka bowled out for a record low of 42 in the first Test against South Africa, with Marco Jansen's career-best 7-13 leading the way.
Sri Lanka was bowled out for their lowest-ever Test total of 42 on the second day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead. Marco Jansen was the standout performer, taking a career-best 7 wickets for just 13 runs, destroying the Sri Lankan team in only 14 overs. This dramatic collapse led to 19 wickets falling on a pitch that offered plenty of bounce, and Sri Lanka’s score of 42 is now the ninth-lowest in Test history.
South Africa had been bowled out for 191 in their first innings but were in a strong position at 132-3 in their second innings, leading by 281 runs at the end of the day. Jansen's 7-wicket haul also made him the second bowler in Test history to take seven wickets in fewer than seven overs in a single innings.
