ISLAMABAD: Dengue fever has taken a deadly turn in Rawalpindi district, with three more fatalities reported in the past week. This unfortunate development raises the total death toll for the year to 11.
The latest victims include:
- Haseeb Iqbal, 50, from Rawalpindi Cantt
- Nadia Naureen, 32, from Taxila
- Zakia Bibi, 50, from Kalar Syedan
Two of these individuals succumbed to the disease on consecutive days at Holy Family Hospital.
Rising Cases and Hospital Capacity
In the last 24 hours alone, 141 new cases of dengue fever were reported, contributing to a total of 836 positive cases over the past week. This averages out to approximately 120 cases daily. Since January 2024, the total number of confirmed cases in Rawalpindi stands at 4,427.
Fortunately, the hospital management has maintained control over the situation, with only 267 patients currently receiving treatment, well below the facility's capacity of 600 beds.
