Trump’s remarks about women kick up firestorm

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has ignited controversy once again with sexist comments made during

a campaign rally, adding to a pattern of lewd and disparaging remarks about women from the former

President and his allies.

During his remarks on Wednesday regarding his stance on abortion, Trump stated, “I want to protect

the women of our country… whether the women like it or not.” These comments faced swift

backlash from women across the political spectrum, with Vice President Kamala Harris leading the

charge, labeling the statement “very offensive to women.” This comes just days before an election

expected to highlight gender divides, with Trump maintaining strong support among male voters.

This isn't the first time the 78-year-old billionaire has faced criticism for his treatment of women. His

previous comments, including a notorious 2016 video where he bragged about using his fame to

“grab women,” sparked widespread outrage, yet he still managed to win the election against Hillary

Clinton.

Now, in his third presidential bid against another woman, Trump appears to be trying to convey a

tough image. He has previously insulted Harris, calling her “mentally retarded” and “crazy,” and

insinuated that if elected, she would be a “play toy” for world leaders. Additionally, on his Truth

Social platform, he has suggested that Harris’s success in politics was due to sexual favors.
