Traffic Police Issue Over 66,000 Challan Tickets in October

The City Traffic Police (CTP) of Rawalpindi took extensive action against traffic violators in October, issuing 66,482 challan tickets. This move, part of a campaign under the directives of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima, aims to enforce traffic laws and enhance road safety across the city.

According to a CTP spokesperson, the traffic police provided licenses and driving-related services to over 148,000 citizens last month. The enforcement drive targeted a variety of infractions: 858 tickets were issued for no-parking violations, 2,177 for traffic signal violations, 1,074 for one-way violations, and 4,268 for line violations. Unlicensed drivers faced significant penalties, with 12,659 tickets issued as part of the crackdown.

The campaign also addressed other violations affecting public health and safety. Smoke-emitting vehicles received 1,929 fines, and 1,716 drivers were penalized for underage driving. Public transport vehicles operating without fitness certificates incurred 1,782 fines, while 2,518 vehicles were penalized for lacking route permits. Additionally, 6,932 motorcyclists were fined for riding without helmets.

CTO Beenish Fatima emphasized CTP's dedication to making Rawalpindi a safer city, free of accidents. She stated that strict measures would continue, especially against underage drivers, those driving without licenses, and motorcyclists riding without helmets. She also urged all citizens to wear seat belts and helmets, stressing that law enforcement would not tolerate any traffic violations.

To further promote road safety, traffic wardens have been instructed to work diligently to prevent accidents and maintain a steady traffic flow throughout Rawalpindi district.
