Feminism flag-bearers are unaware of ordinary women's issues: Faiza Gillani

Pakistani Actress Faiza Gillani Speaks Out on Feminism and Social Issues.

Faiza Gillani, a renowned Pakistani actress, shared her thoughts on feminism, politics, and

social issues during a podcast appearance on Iffat Omar's show. Gillani opened up about her challenging childhood, having grown up in a single-parent

household after her father moved to the US when she was in 4th grade. Her mother raised

her alone, facing numerous difficulties.

On democracy, Gillani stated that she has never truly experienced it in Pakistan.

Regarding feminism, Gillani clarified that while she considers herself a feminist, she

disagrees with certain aspects of the movement. She criticized some slogans and chants

used in the Aurat March (Women's March), echoing concerns shared by many.

Gillani emphasized that feminism's core principle is allowing women to make their own

choices, free from societal pressure. She advocated for women's autonomy in dressing,

career choices, and personal decisions.

However, Gillani noted that Pakistani society often restricts women's freedom, even after

becoming doctors, forcing them to stay at home instead of pursuing careers.

Surprisingly, Gillani observed that championing feminism often lacks understanding of

ordinary women's struggles. She criticized both extreme proponents and opponents of

feminism for refusing to listen to each other.

Gillani's comments have sparked a vital conversation about feminism, social issues, and the

need for inclusive, nuanced discussions.
