Ukraine Downs Over 50 Missiles in ‘Inhuman’ Christmas Day Attack: Zelenskyy

Ukraine’s air defense forces successfully intercepted more than 50 out of 70 Russian missiles launched on Christmas Day, in what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as an “inhuman” assault targeting the nation’s energy infrastructure.

The attack occurred early Wednesday morning, with Russian forces deploying over 70 missiles, including ballistic types, alongside more than 100 attack drones. President Zelenskyy condemned the timing of the strike, saying, “Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas to attack. What could be more inhuman?”

The missile strikes caused blackouts across several regions in Ukraine as energy facilities were targeted, leaving many residents without electricity during the holiday season. Despite the damage, Ukraine’s air defense systems managed to mitigate the scale of destruction by neutralizing the majority of the missiles.

“Their goal is clear,” Zelenskyy stated. “They continue to fight for a complete blackout in Ukraine.” Energy workers and emergency teams are now racing against time to restore power to the affected regions.

This latest assault highlights Russia’s ongoing attempts to destabilize Ukraine by targeting critical civilian infrastructure, a tactic that has been heavily criticized by the international community.
